Martin Poelman is a business analyst with a focus on financial processes and IT. He has extensive experience as project manager for parties such as ING, Equens and Timeos.
He is working on setting up the first Dutch credit unions. Credit unions are regional or sector-specific cooperative associations that help provide credit to SME. A credit union has members that bring in funds and members that take out credit. It functions as a mutual society. Credit unions are a response to the lack of available financing for SME. Branch associations and regional entrepreneurial associations in particular are showing a strong interest in credit unions. The first credit unions are expected to become operational in the coming months with support from Bakkenist.
